Bristol Parks, Recreation, Youth and Community Services is now accepting applications for Summer 2020 employment opportunities, which include camp director, assistant director, paraprofessional, camp counselor, summer laborer, seasonal lifeguard, swim instructor and front desk attendant positions. Employment applications are available HERE or in the Parks, Recreation, Youth and Community Services office located at 111 N. Main Street on the second floor of Bristol City Hall. The Parks and Recreation department typically hires 30-40 new lifeguards, swim instructors and camp counselors each year to work at various camp sites and pools throughout town.
Camp Director & Assistant Directors must have experience working with children and have previous classroom or management experience. These positions are responsible for daily activities, field trips and the safety of all participants and staff. Paraprofessionals must have previous work experience in the field. These positions are responsible for guiding and supporting participants’ through daily activities and field trips while creating a safe and comfortable environment. Camp Counselors must be at least 15 years old and are responsible for planning and leading activities and experiences for children in a group setting, as well as overseeing the general safety and development of the children under their supervision. Camp counselors should be available to work the entire summer season, Monday through Friday from June 24 – August 14. Prior experience working with children is highly preferred. Summer Laborer must be at least 15 years old. Summer laborers are assigned to a crew and work to maintain the parks and facilities throughout the cities. Duties include but are not limited to cleaning bathrooms, mowing and weeding fields, leaf blowing and trash pick-up. Prior experience working with maintenance equipment highly preferred. Lifeguards must be at least 15 years old and have current certification in American Red Cross Lifeguarding or be able to successfully complete a course prior to the start of the summer season. Lifeguards are assigned to one of the town’s outdoor or indoor pools, and typically work a varied schedule including nights and weekends.
Swim Instructors must be at least 16+ and have current certification as an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI). Swim instructors provide swim lessons and teach water safety skills to participants of all ages.
The Parks, Recreation, Youth and Community Services Department is offering both Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification courses this spring. Those who are seeking certification are encouraged to register for the courses early as spaces are limited.
