Now Accepting Nominations for the 2021 Youth Recognition Awards
Bristol, CT., February 17, 2021 – The City of Bristol Department of Parks, Recreation, Youth and Community Services (BPRYCS) is seeking nominations for the 2021 Youth Recognition Awards and 29th Annual Youth Service Recognition Day. Each year, Mayor Ellen Zappo-Sassu, BPRYCS, and the Bristol Youth Commission highlight and celebrate the young people who go above and beyond to serve the Bristol community.
Mayor Ellen Zoppo-Sassu stated, “As we celebrate the 29th Annual Youth Service Recognition Day and call for nominations of outstanding youth, I cannot express how it has never been more important to acknowledge and recognize the strong and resilient dedicated youth of this community.” Zoppo-Sassu is asking Bristol, “Please reflect on the talented and hardworking young people you know and show your support for their tremendous dedication to the Bristol community.”
Youth and youth groups may be nominated by adults that benefited from a community service project or volunteerism of a Bristol young person between March 1, 2020 and February 28, 2021.
This year’s Youth Recognition Awards will be centered on self-improvement, internal personal growth, efforts to get along with peers and authority figures, academics efforts, and contributions to their school, neighborhoods, and community.
Youth & Community Services Supervisor, Stephen Bynum, remarked, “In light of the COVID-19 Pandemic, we have seen Bristol’s youth step up during a challenging time and make significant meaningful contributions to their schools, community groups and their neighbors. It’s been amazing to see and we want to celebrate all of the outstanding ways our youth have prevailed at such a time.”
Superintendent of Parks, Recreation, Youth and Community Services, Dr. Joshua Medeiros added, “The criteria for judging nominees has changed slightly this year. We understand the limitations COVID has presented and that performing the traditionally required number of service hours would be challenging. We want to recognize more young people doing great work in the community and we hope that these changes will open the application to more nominations.”
Selected nominees will be recognized at the Youth Recognition Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at Mrs. Rockwell’s Pavilion in Rockwell Park.
Nomination forms for both individual and youth groups are available online at can be found on the BPRYCS website www.BristolRec.com as well as at the Youth & Community Services building located at 51 High Street.
